AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Amboseli National park is one of the most
popular wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya. It is situated
close to Kenya - Tanzania border, The Park lies at the
foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa
(5,896m) whose snow-capped summit presents a splendid
view on clear days. Amboseli National Park is often
referred to as “The home of Elephants’ some
of the largest Elephant herds are found here. The Game
Park also contains vast groups of Zebras, Wildebeests,
Giraffes, Buffalos, Hippos and Antelopes. Also to be
found in Amboseli are lions, leopards, Cheetahs, Rhinos
and many species of plain game.

DESCRIPTION:
With Mount Kilimanjaro presiding over the landscape,
Amboseli Serena is located on the shadow of this Africa’s
highest Mountain; beside a copse of giant Acacia trees
and gently flowing natural spring. The lodge is influenced
by native Masai Architecture and is in perfect harmony
with the environment.

Total of 96 all standard rooms with
ONLY two inter-connecting rooms (one door). No triple
rooms available.
Room Décor: The rooms are individually
appointed with authentic Africana and murals painted
by Re-known local artists and conveying a distinctive
Masai Manyatta mood. Limited space in the rooms.

DESCRIPTION:
Set at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli
sopa Lodge nestles in a flower strewn glade surrounded
by tall acacia trees. Its long, sheltered veranda overlooks
a natural spring frequented by birds and wildlife. Within
a short walking distance one may visit the marvellous
hippo pools. Spread out on a 200 acre estate on the
lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, this lodge offers
some of the most unusual features and facilities to
be found at any safari destination in Kenya

Has a total of 112 beds.

accommodation is comfortable, quaint and rustic and
the lush gardens play host to numerous brilliantly
colored birds.

TUKAI LODGE

LOCATION:
At the heart of Amboseli National Park, 270kms due south
of Nairobi.
DESCRIPTION:
Ol Tukai Lodge is situated at the foot
of snow-peaked Mt. Kilimanjaro which, standing at the
5,895 metres is the highest mountain in Africa. Amboseli
National Park (Amboseli is Maasai for ‘place of
water’ and is probably the best wildlife area
to experience elephants at close range. The park consists
of a partially dry, lakebed of evaporated salts and
fragile grassland with patches of acacia woodland. Around
the swamps the vegetation is lush with yellow barked
acacia and phoenix palms. You can see most types of
game in the park including rhino, maasai giraffe, gazelle,
lion, cheetah and leopards. Birdlife is prolific too,
especially around the swamp areas.
NUMBER OF ROOMS:
80 luxury twin rooms.
- Room décor: The rooms are
chalet style, single storey blocks. Built out
of local gum trees, beige and cream slate and other
indigenous building materials. Two rooms have been
designed according to EEC standards to accommodate
disabled people. A double storied three bedroom
house with verandahs on both floors, a spacious living
room and large jacuzzi all with stunning views of
Mt. Kilimanjaro, is also available for those who want
something extra.

and some rooms have facilities for the disabled.

an uninterrupted view of the wetlands and Mt. Kilimanjaro,
with the occasional dust trail of safari vehicles
viewing game in this most beautiful of Kenya’s

- Dining Room - This opens onto a
verandah, guests can eat inside or out. Behind the
international style carvery hangs an intricately designed
tapestry depicting four maasai. Wall lanterns designed
from spearheads provide illumination.
- Pool Bar - Open between 10.00am
and 5.00pm.This bar serves snacks from a small menu
from between meal times. Snacks cannot be taken in
lieu of table d’hôte luncheon.
- Elephant Bar – Situated between
the lounge and dining room, this open-air bar serves
a wide selection of beers, cocktails, liqueurs and
fresh fruit juices. A balcony around the bar at rooftop
level gives breathtaking views across the wetlands
where you can watch the elephants graze. It is open
from 6.00am. until when the last guest retires for
the night.

Elephant Research station give regular talks.
- Maasai Dancing - On alternate evenings
a troupe of Maasai morans entertains guests with traditional

many varieties of beautifully coloured birds. Enjoy
the short birdwalk that starts at the entrance of
the hotel and rambles under the canopy of acacia trees
around the lodge. A must for any budding ornithologist.
- Swimming Pool - The crystal clear
figure of eight swimming pool, shaded by the occasional
acacia tree, has ample sun beds and mattresses available
for guest use. Guests are not permitted to swim
at night.

is available just off the main reception. With
its own private washrooms and kitchen, the conference
room has a capacity of 160 Theatre-style, 80 boardroom-style

PORINI
CAMP

LOCATION:
In the The Selenkay Conservation Area which lies a few
miles north of Amboseli National Park and is an important
dispersal area and rangeland for wildlife migrating
out of Amboseli, this area is approximately 100 miles
from Nairobi (a 3.5 hour drive mostly on tarmac down
the Mombasa road. The Amboseli airstrip can also be
used, with daily flights from Nairobi.)
DESCRIPTION:
Porini is Swahili for “in the wild” and
Porini Camp offers one of Africa’s most authentic
camping safaris in one of the wildest destinations in
Maasai country. Porini is one of the original success
stories of Kenya’s burgeoning community conservation
movement.
Located in the selenkay conservation
area, a 15,000 private game reserve within a vast tract
of land owned by the kisonko clan of the maasai people.
It is set up along the lines of the traditional hunting
safari bush camp, so there are no permanent structures
like a restaurant or swimming pool. It is a real camping
experience in the bush, though with a much more comfortable
bathroom experience than what was available to the hunters
of the olden days. The camp is small and exclusive,
accommodating a maximum of 12 guests. The camp is staffed
by members of the local Maasai community apart from
the management couple who act as the hosts.

guest tents.

The guest tents are comfortably furnished and with
en suite bathrooms including a bath and a traditional
bucket shower, wash basin and flush toilet.
- Tents have solar-powered electric
lighting; each tent has a double and a single bed,
they are also large and airy.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
FACILITIES: The main dining tent has comfortable
chairs, though most meals are taken outside under the
shade of an acacia tree and after dinner, guests sit
around the campfire and listen to the sounds of the
African Night, whilst on game drives picnic lunch is
offered. The staff can also organize for a sundowner
on Olosinkiran Hill.
Special feature:
There is good game viewing in the conservation area,
with a number of cat species including lion inhabiting
the area. Amboseli is famous for its large herds of
elephants and is close enough to be included in a morning
or afternoon game drive. In addition to species like
leopard, cheetah, giraffe and zebra, there are also
several less common species such as caracal, African
wild cat, civet, gerenuk, lesser kudu and striped hyena.
Night drives and walks are also possible within the
conservation area
